What would Jesus do?
Well, in this situation he would surely turn water into wine, because it seems that Birmingham doesn’t sell vino on Sundays.
Actually, that isn’t true. You can buy alcohol at a restaurant, but you can’t buy alcohol at a store and take it home.
This doesn’t make sense to me. Not one little bit.
And now I’m in a predicament.
You see, we’re having guests for dinner tonight. I’d planned to do all of my shopping – including beverages – on Saturday, but Olivia woke up with a high fever and a raging case of separation anxiety.
So here I am. Without wine.
But I do have a closet full of hard liquor.
This could be quite an interesting dinner party.
UPDATE:
We drove to the next county which does, in fact, sell alcohol after 12 p.m. on Sundays. Too bad many proprietors still choose to be closed on Sundays.
And then there was the package store / convenience store / dry cleaners combo-mart. Found some sort of furry thing growing on the Cava labels in the fridge. Hightailed it out of there.
Also, you'd better forget Wal-Mart. It's against company policy to sell alcohol on Sundays. The cashier actually laughed at us. For a long time.
We finally found a convenience store that actually sold a wonderful Prosecco. And a Riesling. And a lovely red, too.
Thank you, God, for Vulcan on Highway 119.
Amen.

You must live in Shelby County! Head north. Jefferson County sells alcohol on Sundays, but not until noon.
Yes, we're in Shelby, but we tried locating Jefferson Co. wine shops open on Sunday and came up dry (ha!). I think we found a package store in Leeds, though!
I'm in Mobile and I didn't know that you can't buy wine before noon...I'm pretty sure the cashier thought I was an idiot.
Oh, some of the grocery stores have pretty decent wine selections (the Pig, V Richards, etc.). I think the wine shops are just closed because they don't want to work on Sundays.
Alli, I didn't know that you couldn't buy alcohol before noon till I'd lived here for several years. I guess I just never tried.
